The Brown Headed Barbet


  1. The Brown Headed Barbet’s scientific name is Megalaima Zeylnica.
  2. In Sri Lanka, this bird is known as Polos Kottoruwa in Sinhala.
  3. The Brown Headed Barbet’s Family is Megalaimidae.
  4. This bird is 26 cm long.
  5. This bird is very common in India and Sri Lanka. You can see this kind of birds in forests and home gardens.
  6. It makes nests in tree holes.
  7. It lays 2-4 eggs.
  8. It is a plump bird with a short neck, a large head and a short tail.
  9. There are many kinds of birds like crimson fronted Barbet, coppersmith Barbet, and the Sri Lanka yellow fronted Barbet.
