The Black Hooded Oriole




  1. The Black Hooded Oriole’s scientific name is Oriolus xanthomus .In Sri Lanka, this bird is known as kaha kurulla.
  2. Bird is about 25 cm long.
  3. The Black Hooded Oriole’s family is Oriolidae.
  4. This bird’s are very common in Southern Asia from India, Sri Lanka and East to Indonesia.
  5. This bird builds nests in trees.
  6. This bird lays 2 eggs.
  7. The Black Hooded Oriole eats insects and fruits.
  8. The Black Hooded Oriole has a possibility to fly very fast.
  9. In summers this bird visits north India.
  10. Orioles can be very shy, and even the male may be difficult to see in the dappled yellow and green leaves of the canopy.
